Photo Therapy cards are the combined work of a creative counsellor, a fancy designer and a clever print company.

As a therapist working with young people and adults I was looking for ways of helping young people express themselves. After realising tools were limited I developed emotions cards. These have been so well received that I have looked at some of my other self created tools.

Art therapy and creative work in counselling is well recognised and valuable, as a creative person myself I was keen to work with clients in this manner. I quickly learnt that even art students are sometimes hesitant to draw in sessions. Aside from this therapists don’t always have many art supplies to hand.

Photo Therapy Cards bridge this gap. They allow a picture or pictures to take the place of difficult words, to help someone explore a traumatic or complex area in a safe way. They take away the embarrassment or difficulty of drawing in front of another and to think in a different way.

25 cards are printed in full colour onto a weighty card with silky finish. The matte card was chosen for its great print quality and luxurious, thick feel. The cards are 65mm by 65mm fitting perfectly in the palm of your hand. They come in a tailored matchbox making them perfectly portable.

The cards can be used in their entirety or a few picked out to suit. They can be flipped through and explored, selected and discussed, used to create a visual life map, combined with written words, names or even sand tray to suit client’s needs. Whether they are used as prompts in a simple starter activity or to explore something more complex these cards are a valuable tool. They can be used singularly as transitional items, tools to remind clients of therapeutic work outside of the counselling room.

These cards can be used in many settings; in therapy, education, special educational needs and many more, how will you use yours?
