Fostering independence is important, it’s talked about from a child being born. They should self settle in the cot, manage their own self care, work independently at school. It’s mentioned by health visitors, teachers and employers. It’s a common buzzword, skill, and attribute. And yes it does have some importance.

But sometimes this push for indepence and view of it being a strength has conversely meant that asking for help has become a weakness. Anyone unable to ask for help is invaluable at every stage of life. Community asking for help, support the ability to be dependent is a skill also.

Humans are social creatures meant to have contact, touch starved, etc
